  • Head's Termly Letter

2016-17 came to a delightful end with a Prize Giving ceremony where we were so proud to celebrate the success of our children; be the achievement in the classroom, on the sports field, whilst holding a musical instrument or balancing against the ballet barre.
I would like to thank Mr Tim Haynes, Head Master of Tonbridge Boys School, for helping to present our prizes and for his insightful speech on the marks that we leave on others in our lives – remember to be careful with those Velcro words! It complimented my reflection on the outgoing Year 6 children who, when participating in mock elections (as felt appropriate in such a politically charged year), proved themselves to be the sensible, responsible citizens that their parents and teachers have been supporting them to become.
The children demonstrated an inclusive nature, opting to build bridges and not walls. They wanted to help others and demonstrate a social conscience, showing that it was important for everyone to do their duty and therefore everything would be fair and just. The children demonstrated the ability to seek information for themselves and not just listen to whoever spoke loudest. They were not fooled by big personalities instead realising that being patient, reserved and polite can achieve the desired outcome. Ultimately they understood that for society, or even for a school to work and be fair, that everyone needs to contribute equally and fairly, and be a part of a team.

We hope that they take this good attitude with them to their new schools - to remember that they have the ability to make their own decisions. When faced with so-called fake news, to just listen carefully and decipher the truth for themselves. To remember that they have your own voices – voices that people through history have worked hard to give them – and now it is their turn to work hard and use their voices to make a difference.

So as the last school year draws to a close, let’s look forward to all of the excitement that 2017-18 will bring – welcome to the Autumn term!

Thank you as ever for your continued support.
