A child’s experiences in their early years sets the scene for later achievement in school life.
The Foundation Stage begins in Kindergarten, where our first priority is to make the transition from home to school a positive experience. We provide a warm, caring family atmosphere and a stimulating environment where children feel safe and happy, and where they will grow in self-confidence while learning to share and co-operate.
We offer a structured programme, delivered in our purpose-built environment. This gives the children a happy start to school life, and introduces the concepts of reading, writing and number. We cover all six areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, including phonics and pre-maths activities in Reception year, before moving on to Key Stage 1.
Children also experience activities that are designed to stimulate development and learning through play, enabling them to develop all aspects of their character. Themes explored via art, numeracy, literacy, discussion and play include the Seasons, ourselves, festivals, nursery rhymes, people who help us, colour, shape and pattern.
The children also have the chance to explore outside in a dedicated, safe playground. They can run free, grow vegetables, explore the playhouse, race on trikes, dig in the sand and more! As part of a larger school, we also have a lovely garden for nature walks and bear hunts, and an adventure playground.
We want every parent, child and member of staff to feel that they are part of one, happy family. Prep school children are regular visitors to the early years department, and our parents frequently join our class assemblies, and annual school events.
Bricklehurst is such a warm and friendly school which creates a lovely, welcoming atmosphere.
Our twice weekly Brickletot session are an hour of fun for children and their parents aged 3 months to 3 years. These relaxed sessions are run by Bricklehurst staff and offer both you and your child the opportunity to get to know the Bricklehurst family whilst getting messy on Mondays or singing and learning French on Thursdays. If you would like to find out more, please contact the school office on 01580 200448 or firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Our Kindergarten allows children to take gentle steps into the world of education. Children attend the Kindergarten from the term that they are three years of age, and progress into the Reception class in the academic year of their fifth birthday. They may attend morning sessions which finish at 12.30pm or 1.30pm if they wish to stay for lunch. We also offer afternoon sessions and many children progress to a full day in readiness for their start in Reception. We also offer a free early morning drop-off facility from 8.00am for children with working parents, and well supervised After School Activity Clubs until 5.00pm every day.
